Song Of The Day – “Brain Gallop” by Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks

I’ve been spinning Malkmus’ latest record, “Mirror Traffic” incessantly since it appeared in August and it has become clear that it is perhaps the best record I’ve heard all year. Record producer Beck Hanson (aka Beck) focused The Jicks’ to create a collection of succinct songs. He really doesn’t do them justice in concert….go out and get this record!

Song Of The Day – “Senator” by Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks

I may be in the minority, but I think Malkmus’ records with the Jicks are better than the ones he made with Pavement. Nevertheless, he’s been on a roll and this, his fifth album since leaving Pavement, is one of his best. “Mirror Traffic” was produced by Beck. Gone are the long guitar jams of his last album, replaced with more concise, well-written songs.

Song Of The Day – “Real Emotional Trash” by Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks

In the realm of heaviosity, they don’t come any heavier than Malkmus’  Jicks.  Here’s a live version of the title track of their 2008 album a year before its release.  They’ll be releasing a new platter in a few months and taking to the road again. Sure glad he got that Pavement reunion out of the way…
